Dear St. Paul’s School Community,
As part of the Headmaster Search Committee’s ongoing commitment to keep you informed on the search for our new headmaster, I am writing to report on our activities and progress to date. I appreciate the strong interest expressed by many of you in contributing to this effort, and we look forward to including your voice and input in the process ahead.
The Search Committee’s first assignment was to identify a search consultant to assist in recruiting our next headmaster. We received strong interest from the leading national search firms for this engagement and are pleased to report we have selected Jim Bonney and Jim Maggart of Educators’ Collaborative (EC). EC, founded in 1971, has led approximately 450 head of school searches. Messrs. Bonney and Maggart have each served as heads and trustees of independent schools and have completed over 100 Head of School searches between them. They both continue to be active in regional and national independent school boards and organizations. The Search Committee was impressed by their track record and commitment to understanding St. Paul’s School, both of which will be important in identifying the best candidates to be our next headmaster.
An early priority for the search process will be for the Search Committee and our consultants to receive input from the St. Paul’s community. Our consultants will be on the St. Paul’s campus next Tuesday and Wednesday, April 3 and 4, to meet with many members of our community: students, faculty, parents, alumni, administrators and trustees in order to develop a leadership profile for St. Paul’s next headmaster and to gain a sense of the opportunities and challenges facing St. Paul’s. Obviously, they will not be able to meet with everyone in our community, so please take advantage of the survey available on the school’s web site. We are interested in hearing from as many people as possible.
The Search Committee and EC will have the profile and search schedule completed in April. During the summer months, our consultants will build the pool of candidates, and by late summer the Search Committee will begin the important process of reviewing and narrowing the candidate pool. At that time, our community will have the opportunity to meet the finalist candidates. Our goal is to select our Headmaster-elect before Thanksgiving.
The Board and the Search Committee are committed to giving a voice to all members of the St. Paul’s community during this process, so please help us get started by filling out the survey on the School’s web site. As events unfold, I will continue to keep you posted.
