News & Announcements

On Thursday, December 6, the Board of Trustees of The St. Paul's Schools announced the appointment of Dr. Jefferson Huang as the Schools' inaugural president. Dr. Huang comes to St. Paul's from Claremont McKenna College, a top-ranked liberal arts college in Claremont, California, where he is Vice President and Senior Advisor to the President as well as Assistant Professor of Philosophy.
St. Paul's celebrates the holidays with a number of traditions that capture the joy of the season. We invite you to celebrate the season with the School community throughout December.

Head of School Search Committee members named

Head of School Search Committee

Louis A. Sarkes, Jr. (Board Treasurer) 
Louis Sarkes, Chair of the Search Committee, joined the St. Paul’s Board of Trustees in 2008. He currently serves as Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee. Louis and his wife, Mamie are the parents of Haywood ’12, George ’13 and Evie.

Kermit S. Billups ‘79
Kermit Billups is a 1979 graduate of St. Paul’s. He joined the Board of Trustees in 2006. Kermit’s father, Sam Billups served on the Board from 1980–1988. Kermit and his wife Angela have two sons, Jonathan ’18 and Samuel.

Keith Culbertson
Keith Culbertson joined the Middle School Faculty in 2005. The recipient of the William A. Bassett Chair for Teaching Excellence, he is the Middle School Mathematics Chair and coaches cross country and basketball.

Nancy L. Dimitriades
The 2011 recipient of the Freeman Award for Excellence in Teaching, Nancy L. Dimitriades joined the Lower School faculty in 2000. A first grade teacher and Grade Chair, Nancy is a member of the Language Arts, Chapel, and Mission committees, and coordinates the Baltimore to Botswana service-learning project. She and her husband Peter live on campus with children Anna (a 2011 graduate of the Lower School) and Nicholas.

Hayward Howard '02
Hayward Howard is a 2002 graduate of St. Paul’s School. He joined the St. Paul’s Board of Trustees in 2011 as the Alumni Representative. Hayward has been a member of the St. Paul’s Alumni Board since 2007 and currently serves as President. 

Susan B. Kearney
Susan Kearney, Head of Institutional Initiatives, has been a member of the St. Paul’s community since 1995.  She came to St. Paul’s to oversee and manage the installation of the first campus network, and eventually became Director of Technology and Libraries before moving on to her current role.   Susan and her husband, Mitch, are the parents of a son, Tommy ’16, and a daughter, Emma SPSG ’13.

Martha Pellington (Board Vice President)
Martha Pellington joined the St. Paul’s Board of Trustees in 2007 and currently serves as Vice President. Marthaand her husband, William “Bato” M. Pellington ’77, have three children, Jack ’12, Virginia SPSG ’14 and Peyton SPSG’17.

R. Carl Pohlhaus ‘83
Carl Pohlhaus is a 1983 graduate of St. Paul’s School. He joined the St. Paul’s Board of Trustees in 2010 and currently is a member of the Finance and Philanthropy committees. Carl andhis wife Tracy have three children, Gavin ’15 Matthew ’18 and Caroline ’23.

Howard Schindler
Howard Schindler has been on the faculty and coaching staff of St. Paul’s School since 1976, joining the Middle School as a science teacher. He presently teaches science in the Upper School. Howard and his wife, Liz, live on campus and have a son, Mark ’00, and a daughter, Alison, who graduated from St. Paul’s School for Girls in 2002.

Pam Sharps
Pam Sharps has served on the St. Paul’s Parents Association since 2010. She currently is the President and Parents’ Association Representative to the Board of Trustees. Pam’s husband Rob is a member of the Investment Sub-Committee of the Board. They have four children, Alec ‘17, Will ‘19, Bryan ‘22 and Tommy ‘24.

H. James Smith III ‘72
Jim Smith is a 1972 graduate of St. Paul’s School. He is a former member of the St. Paul’s Board of Trustees (2002-2010) and served as the President of the Board from 2004-2008. Jim and his wife Maureen have three children, Tyler ’05, Jay ’05, Nicholas ’10.

Francis X. Smyth
Francis Smyth has been a member of the St. Paul’s Board of Trustees since 2006. He currently serves as  Chairman of the Property Sub-Committee. Francis and his wife Autee have three sons, Francis ’06, Peter ’08 and Michael ’23.

J. Sedwick “Wick” Sollers, III '73 (Board Vice President)
Wick Sollers is a 1973 graduate of St. Paul’s School. Wick has been a member of the St. Paul’s Board of Trustees since 2006 and currently serves as Vice President. Wick and his wife Magge have two children, Joe ’15 and Eliza ’21. 

Board Officers

F. Gillis Green, ‘81 (President)
Gillis Green has been a member of the St. Paul’s Board of Trustees since 2003 and currently serves as President. As a 1981 graduate of St. Paul’s School, Gillis has been an active member of the Alumni Association, serving as Alumni Board President from 2001-2003. Gillis and his wife Lynn, have two children, Russell ’14 and Anne Marie.

Donald R. Heacock (Secretary)
Donald Heackock has been a member of the St. Paul’s Board of Trustees since 2004. He currently serves as Secretary. Donald and his wife, Melanie (a trustee from 1994-2002), were co-Chairs of the School's recently completed $25 million campaign. They have three children, Pam, Cameron and Brad ’02. Melanie is a former trustee of St. Paul’s School.

Dennis Kurgansky
Dennis Kurgansky has been a member of the St. Paul’s Board of Trustees since 2010 and currently serves as Chair of the Philanthropy Committee. Dennis is a former Board Chair of the Harford Day School. He and his wife, Barbara, have two sons, Jonathan ’05 and Nicholas ’09.

Reverend Mark A. Stanley (Chair) 
Reverend Mark Stanley is the Chair of the St. Paul’s Board of Trustees and has been a member since 2004. Reverend Stanley is the Rector of Old St. Paul’s Church. He and his wife, the Reverend Mary Stanley, have two children, Jack ’18 and Hannah SPSG '18.
