Class of 2020 Celebrates Commencement
Posted 06/24/2020 08:00AM

The class of 2020 gathered on Hamilton Lawn June 20 for their commencement ceremony. While this ceremony looked different than years past, many of the traditions of this special event were incorporated, including the reading of a personal comment about each graduate.

During his remarks, Headmaster David Faus reflected on the unique place in history this class came through the school and praised their leadership during a truly unprecedented time. "You are optimists and that is what got you through this year. You have been remarkable leaders and all of us have taken notice." Faus also noted the strong bonds made during their SP tenure. "What I will remember most about the class of 2020 is having lunch with you in your advisory groups – asking you to reflect on your time at SP. The stories you shared with me spoke to the character of this class. When I asked you, what was the most important/ favorite tradition at St. Paul's, you quickly listed several events like the sock hop or Kinsolving trips but then focused on the relationship you had made here. The most important traditions here at school were less about events and more about the people you had bonded with during your time at St. Paul's – the faculty, coaches, and your peers."

Graduating senior William Joseph Connor addressed his class about the unusual year and their perseverance. "We realized we already had everything we needed from SP and more. We have already gained our relationships. They were set in stone," he said. "We got through the thick of it and here we are today. We will keep our best memories close..."

Thomas Jared Linz received the Kinsolving-Hamilton Award for embodying the ideals in the school prayer. The Arthur B. Kinsolving Fellowship Award for best representing St. Paul's School for Boys was presented to William Joseph Connor. The Alumni Medal recognizing the student or students with the highest GPA in the class over four years of upper school was awarded to three students: Logan Alexander Danker, Vincent Alexander Gilliam, and Jalon Aaron Thomas.
