Participation in the theater program is open to all students, including those with little or no experience. The program aims to expose students to a range of theatrical styles and techniques and a variety of literature, ranging from ancient to the latest in contemporary drama.
The Upper School stages three major theatrical productions every year, providing students with the chance to act, direct, write one-act plays, work on costume and set design, and build sets – all in a modern theatre, staffed by a fulltime sound and lighting director and technical director. The Middle School stages one major production each year; Lower School students are introduced to theater with their participation in the Fourth Grade Play (View photos from "Jungle Book," our 2014 performance and “The Lorax,” our 2013 production.)
Alumni of the St. Paul’s theater program include:
Lorenzo Millan ’88, 2014 Emmy Award winner for sound mixing on “House of Cards;”
Mike Rosolio ’00, network comedy writer and former National Lampoon editor-in-chief;
Alan Wiggins ’01, cast member in Broadway productions of The Lion King and Beautiful: The Carole King Musical;
The journey to his first Emmy nomination started 28 years ago at St. Paul’s School for Lorenzo Millan. A teacher there started a class in filmmaking, and he was hooked."
