During these unprecedented times, we hope that you and your family are healthy and safe. Our physical campus is currently closed and our students are participating in daily virtual instruction, but the admissions team is still available to tell you what makes St. Paul's such a special place. Although enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year is largely full, we are happy to discuss St. Paul’s as a possible new school for your son. Please send a message to SPAdmissions@stpaulsmd.org and we will contact you shortly. Check our Facebook and Instagram pages to stay up to date.
MIDDLE SCHOOL AT ST. PAUL'S
St. Paul’s Middle School brings out the best in each boy by providing appropriate challenge and support, fostering relationships, and offering endless opportunities. We understand that a good middle school experience cannot be just about the academic side of life. There are many essential aspects of guiding boys through adolescence: academics, athletics, arts, character development, relationships with faculty and peers, leadership opportunities, and responsibility. As members of a community, our students learn that they are part of something bigger than themselves.
St. Paul’s Middle School takes an appropriately challenging, creative, and collaborative educational approach that is tailored to this gender and age group’s unique needs. In all that we do, our goal is for each boy to develop a specific set of behaviors and habits that lead to mastery of essential content. Through careful curriculum planning, we focus on mastery of what matters most in each subject. Ample, engaging activities prepare boys for assessments that are designed to apply and extend learning. Acknowledging that the learning process contains setbacks as well as successes, our Middle School is the perfect place to develop resiliency while being supported every step of the way by a nurturing faculty whose goal is progress over perfection. St. Paul’s is an Episcopal school. Chapel is the heart of our communal life and an integral part of the educational experience we offer. Weekly Chapel services welcome, honor, and respect the religious convictions of all members of the community, as a diverse religious experience enriches our life together.
The St. Paul’s Honor Code helps bring to life our mission of developing responsibility for one’s self and others. Our students are expected to uphold the Honor Code through honest, respectful and responsible participation in School life.
Athletics are a vital part of the total experience at St. Paul’s. As an extension of the academic classroom and traditional school day, many valuable lessons are learned through athletic participation – excellence, discipline, self-confidence, managing success and failure, and sportsmanship among them.
Beginning in fifth grade, in addition to continuing their Physical Education program, boys compete interscholastically, with 20 teams available in 11 sports. The emphasis is on participation, skill development, teamwork and school spirit.
St. Paul’s embraces the arts as a vital means of fostering creativity, insight, empathy, and focus. The Arts program provides courses in visual art, woodworking, music, and theater. Each year the Middle School presents a major theatrical production in collaboration with St. Paul’s School for Girls. The campus has its own radio station, SPS Radio, where Middle School students host and produce live broadcasts of athletic contests, special events and music.
