Lacrosse - MS Blue
|Date:||April 4, 2019|
Our Blue lacrosse team put their 2-0 record on the line yesterday against a strong and talented McDonogh team, and we were up for the challenge. From the opening whistle, the boys played like they were shot out of a cannon. The scoring started with Braeden Ballenger cutting down the seam and jamming home a beautiful feed from Cadigan Kimball to take a 1-0 lead. McDonogh would tie it with a dodge from behind, but we came right back at them scoring off of a sweep to give St. Paul's a 2-1 lead. The game would go back and forth with St. Paul's matching goals with McDonogh all game. After a strong dodge from Michael Smith and a outside cannon from George Hardy gave St. Paul's a two goal lead, we had a few mistakes on both clears and a man down opportunity tied the score at 7-7.
Braeden Ballenger (3 Goals) picked up a loose ball, dodged across the crease, and shot a short side hip goal to give St. Paul's a 8-7 lead in the 4th quarter. Two beautiful saves from Josh Marson kept McDonogh at bay, but a turnover and score knotted the game at 8-8 with 5:40 left. After a man up opportunity failed, McDonogh scored off transition, and with under 3 minutes left, an insurance goal was put in to make the final score 10-8 in favor of McDonogh. Our boys played great, and with a few tweaks, these boys will win this game next time we play them. Could not be more proud of the heart, hustle, and determination these boys displayed, they just keep getting better every game. Next week, we have Boys Latin, so our memories of this game will be short as we prepare for our rivals.
