Basketball - MS Gold vs. Gilman School

Event Type: Regular

Date: January 14, 2019

Event Recap:

On Monday, St. Paul's Gold Basketball took on Gilman at Pollock gymnasium. The game started quickly with St. Paul's and Gilman alternating baskets, though both teams were sloppy with their offensive play. Gilman was able to take an early lead, but St. Paul's was able to fight back on baskets by Amir Saddler and Tyler McGill. Both teams got into foul trouble early, but could not capitalize on the extra foul shot opportunities. A beautiful jumper by Cadigan Kimball tied the game, and strong defense kept Gilman away from the basket most of the first half.

As the second half started, St. Paul's started to apply a full court press, which created turnover for us, and some easy baskets. The game was tight throughout the second half as well, while Landon Blue and Andrew Cooper were able to penetrate the defense of Gilman, and create scoring opportunities for St. Paul's. With 51 seconds left, we were able to take the lead 37-36, and we tried to shut off Gilman's ball handlers, but they were able to get to the basket, and connected on a 3-point play with 18 seconds left. St. Paul's had a few good looks to end the game, but Gilman was able to get fouled, made 1 of 2 free throws, and we could not get off a shot to end the game as Gilman won, 40-37. Extremely tough loss, a game we wish we could have back. The rematch should be exciting in a few weeks.
