Basketball - MS Gold
vs. Concordia Prep
|Date:||January 7, 2019|
After a long winter break, the St. Paul's Gold Basketball team hit the hardwood to take on Concordia Prep at Pollock Gymnasium. From the opening tip, our Gold team attacked the basket and built an early lead with baskets by Andrew Cooper and Kahlil Taylor. After Concordia Prep took a 6-4 lead, Our Gold team took off. Strong put back shots from Amir Saddler, who controlled the paint all game, was able to keep plays alive with his aggressive play. The team welcomed back Injured teammate Robby Warder, and he did not disappoint. Strong rebounding by Robby, Amir saddler, and Tyler McGill helped St. Paul's hold and build a 18-6 halftime lead.
As the second half started, Landon Blue drove to the basket for a nice basket, Cadigan Kimball had a few steals which lead to points, and Colin Vineberg made some steals, played great defense, and grabbed a handful of rebounds to help stretch our lead heading into the fourth quarter. Miles Heard made a great defensive play that lead to an Andrew Cooper field goal, and Ryan Nelson hit free throws to help build our lead some more. The theme of the day was foul shooting and a suffocating defense. Defense lead to many fast break opportunities, which lead to additional foul shot opportunities. Finally, the team has started to hit their free throws, and we built and sustained a big lead for the second half. After two more steals, we called off the dogs, and held onto the ball for a resounding 45-17 victory to even our record at 2-2 for the season. The boys are really coming on, so please come to our next home game and support the team. Gold Basketball will take on Gilman 1/15/19 at 3:30pm at Pollock. Hope to see you there.
Player of the Game - Today, Andrew put it all together and played a tremendous game. Not only did Andrew lead the team in scoring with 10 points, but also had 4 steals, and three assists. Andrews unselfish play helped our Gold team build a strong lead, and secure the win. One play comes to mind was a strong drive to the basket in the first half, and Andrew split two defenders with a great hop, and floater that swished in the basket. What made this beautiful move better was all of the intramural boys were watching, and jumped and screamed their approval after the ball fell through the rim. Great game Andrew, keep up the great work.
