Basketball - MS Blue
vs. Calvert School
|Date:||January 17, 2020|
In a rare Friday afternoon middle school home game, the Blue Basketball squad, hoping to bounce back from two straight losses, took on Calvert School in Pollock Gym. The Crusaders got off to a fast start thanks to its tenacious 1-3-1 full court press. Multiple steals by 7th graders Luke Bair and Ryan Nelson led to conversions at the rim by 8th graders Quinn Matthews and Ernest Willor, and 6th graders Andrew Cooper and Landan Blue attacked the rim relentlessly possession after possession. The visitors from Calvert clawed back in the second quarter thanks to a barrage of three pointers from their starting center. The game remained tight in the second half until yet another cascade of three pointers by Calvert helped the visitors open up a double digit lead. Following a timeout, defensive pressure from St. Paul’s spurred a comeback, and the Crusaders were down just 4 with minutes to play. In the closing stretches however, a few bad bounces, and unfortunate luck doomed St. Paul’s, and the hosts fell by a score of 42-35.
This was the best effort all season by the Blue Team who continue to grow and get better each and every day. Looking ahead, the Crusaders take on the Eagles from McDonogh next week.
