|Basketball - Fresh/Soph Baltimore Lab School|
|Date:||January 21, 2020|
The Fresh/Soph team bounced back following two consecutive losses on Tuesday, when they hosted the Baltimore Lab School in a non-conference game in Pollock Gym. Without a shot clock, the first quarter was a slow affair as the Crusaders could only score one point in the first 5 minutes. However, when Colin Hook buried a 3 from the wing and SPS stole the ball on the next possession leading to a Max Rottinghaus lay-up, the Crusaders took their 1st lead 6 – 5. One minute later, Colin had made 2 more three’s and the quarter would end in the Crusaders favor 12 – 7. Will King and Matthew Marino each hit a basket in the 2nd, while Gavin Clary made a 3 for SPS who went into half time leading 19 – 12.
The 3rd quarter was mostly Declan Brady as he made 2 twos and 2 threes in addition to four more points from Colin to account for all the teams 3rd quarter points. Leading 33 – 22 going into the 4th quarter, it was just a matter of who else would make it into the score sheet. Five players scored in the period. Matthew, Max, and Declan each scored a basket and they were joined by Michael Smyth and Robbie Warder with 2 and 3 points respectively.
Aiden Gould continues to be vital to the team’s success by contributing numerous rebounds and steals. Braeden Hastings was solid in the first half giving Thomas Magnusson a break. Amir Saddler was strong inside and his screens led to a number of open shots. The Crusaders have a huge game on Friday at Concordia Prep, so please wish the players well when you see them.
