Event Recap:

JV basketball defeats Indian Creek at the Buzzer!

The JV Basketball team had their second home game of the week against Indian Creek.  After not having practice the day before due to the weather, the boys were a little slow to take up in warm ups and the visiting team was ready to get after it.  It was a defensive battle in the first few minutes with both teams getting stops, but IC started to find gaps in our zone and moved the ball to go up 8-4 halfway through the first.  Things started to pick up once we got in a rhythm, and Freshman Nate Livingston was the spark our offense needed getting looks inside and from the short corner.  Late in the quarter Sophomore Christian Richter got in and was crucial on the boards and picked one up in in the paint, and Nate Livingston capped off his 13 point quarter with a deep corner 3 to put us up 15-12 at the end of the first.

We managed to hold on to our lead in the second quarter and Sophomores Cole Bloom and John Padousis got involved offensively combining for 7 points and Nate tacked on 2 more to get us to 24 going into the half.  Indian Creek struggled to get on the board as well as we settled into our zone.  The score after 2 quarters was 24 - 20 with the Crusies on top.  We made some offensive adjustments at the half and tried to pick up our intensity because we knew Indian Creek would be talking about how to beat our zone.

The visiting team figured something out because Indian Creek came out in the 3rd quarter trying to aggressively score and pick apart our zone.  We traded a couple buckets early on, but then our productivity slowed and IC started to pull away getting points in the paint off rebounds and knocking down 2 big three's.  They managed to get an 8 point lead and going into the final quarter the score was 32 - 40 with Indian Creek on top.

4's were up, it was time for the Crusies to decide if they were going to put their heads down or band together and dog it out to the end.  The 4th quarter was much of the same, and we were getting some looks from Freshman guards Cam Nelson and Josh Stinespring pushing the pace.  With 4 minutes to go we were down 36 - 46, and we decided to drop the zone and go man to man trying to pressure the ball and force turnovers.  The boys strapped up on D and the defensive change confused them and slowed their pace, we jumped on the opportunity and got a couple buckets inside from Sophomores John Padousis and Garrison Curry.  Cole Bloom was attacking through the lane and picked up 2 big free throws from the line, and Nate Livingston hit his second 3 of the game to bring us even closer.  With 2 minutes to go it was a 4 point game and we called a timeout to put in a full court press.  In those final minutes the boys left it all out on the floor, diving for loose balls, not giving up anything on defense, and attacking relentlessly to close the gap.  The press had IC flustered and they couldn't get control of the ball to set up their offense, off a steal we got an easy look inside and with less than 10 seconds on the clock the score was tied at 48.  In the final seconds of the game, John Padousis drove through the lane and tried to lay one in, but it came off the glass and Curry collected the miss, pump faked, step around his man, and went up to finish off the glass to put us up 2 as time expired.  The gym erupted and our bench cleared to celebrate a hard fought team win.  We lined up to shake the other teams hand for showing up and playing a great game.  It was a battle, but a big 3rd league win for the Crusies, but we will see them again in February.  The boys are back at it Thursday in practice to get ready to go on the road Friday to take on the Quakers at Friends.
