Basketball - JV
vs. Cristo Rey Jesuit High School
|Date:||November 18, 2019|
Yesterday the JV Basketball team suited up for their first game after just 2 practices last week. Our 3 retuning sophomores (Cole Bloom, Garrison Curry, and John Padousis) helped lead the team to a strong start combining for 14 of the teams 21 points in the first quarter. Their leadership was also crucial on defense as we held the visiting team to just 6 points in the first quarter.
With such a strong lead we started to get a little too comfortable and Cristo Rey tried to mount a comeback getting 10 quick points. But the young team didn't panic, they reset themselves defensively forced several shot clock violations and got out running on offense. Freshmen Tyler Pelkey had 11 in the first half off the bench, and we went into the half up 18.
The 3rd and 4th quarter were more of the same, and the rest of our guys off the bench were solid on both ends of the floor. The dropped into a 2-3 zone to slow down the pace of the game and the final score was 64-34 in favor of the Crusaders. We were impressed with their ability to go out and compete and play together after just 2 practices, but there is a lot of season left. We are back at it Wednesday on the road at Gerstell Academy, and even though they have moved up to the A conference we are hoping to get back at them for handing us 3 of our 4 losses last year.
