Date: February 1, 2019

Result:Win
Score:45-13

Event Recap:

On a snowy Friday afternoon with rumors of an early dismissal buzzing through the school, the young men on JV basketball ignored all the talk and stayed focus for an important league game against conference opponent Friends. SP took the floor and controlled the pace the entire first quarter, pushing the ball when they forced a turnover and slowing things down to run our offense when they wanted a better look. The ball movement was unstoppable in the first quarter with nearly everyone getting a look at the basket, but our offensive attack was led by Cole Bloom with 5 and Mark Matthews with a pair of 3’s. At the end of the first the score was 20-3, but the Quakers made some defensive adjustments and slowed us down significantly in the 2nd. They went zone on defense and our only points came from Freshman big man Garrison Curry, who would go on to have a season high 8 points on the day off the bench. Friends were able to get a couple open looks and force some turnovers to close the gap to 22-10 as we went into the half. At halftime, Coach Keenan left the boys with a powerful message that gave the Cruzies new energy and they put on an absolute clinic in the second half. Friends make the mistake of going back to a man defense and they got picked apart with the Crusaders attacking from every spot on the floor. St. Paul’s held the visiting team to just 3 points in the last 2 quarters of the game, and added an additional 20 to their own score. Shouts-out to Ayden Jett who made his return to the court after a foot injury and didn’t miss a beat, and Kylen Austen who had a season high 6 points by effortlessly gliding past defenders to get to the rack. The Crusaders have another league game on Monday where they will take on Indian Creek in the Pollack Gym.
