Basketball - JV vs. Severn School

Event Type: Regular

Date: January 25, 2019

Event Recap:

On the last day of the semester, JV basketball piled in the Crusader Van and drove down to Severna Park to take on the Admirals of Severn. It was a long ride, but the boys clearly woke up during warm ups because they came out hot in the first quarter. Sophomore Jack Keenan moved the ball well to get all of our other starters (Sam English, Mark Matthews, Jack Mitchell, and John Padousis) on the board in the first 8 minutes. Mitchell and Padousis both knocked down 3's while English and Matthews worked the paint along with Cole Bloom off the bench. Going into the 2nd quarter the Crusies were up 16-2, but Severn made some defensive adjustments that slowed down our offense going into the half. We were held to 8 points after an explosive first quarter, and despite good ball movement we were only getting occasional looks inside form our big men. As our offense slowed down, Severn's started to heat up and they battled their way to get 9 points. They had opportunities to score more, but Sophomore Kylen Austin came in off the bench and re-energized our defense contributing to a few steals and picking up a couple big blocks. At halftime we made some slight adjustments on offense and defense, and came out at the start of the third ready to set the tone for the half; and the boys did just that. Severn must've made some halftime adjustments as well because they came out and scored 15 on us. However, the Crusader offense got red hot and went off for 24 points including a 4 from Padousis and 2 from Mitchell. Jack Keenan got on the board with a nice drive to the hoop, and he found Freshman big man Garrison Curry on the block for a tough bucket underneath. Going into the fourth the Crusaders just had to play smart and hold out to ensure the win. Everyone got some minutes off of the bench, and went hard every play to prevent comebacks or offensive runs. The final score was 54-36, Crusaders. The boys are on the road again this week going out to Archbishop Curley for a tough grudge match against one of the other 2 teams tied for first in the B conference.
