Event Recap:

The boys varsity basketball team closed out their season Friday night in a thrilling double overtime game with St. Mary’s.  Before the game the team honored seniors DeClan Pollard, Peter, Sheehan, Alex Sulin, Seth Higgins, Austin Meisel, Jalen Cherry, and Miles Moore.  The Crusader’s entered the fourth quarter trailing 47-31 but would outscore their opponents 19-2 in the final frame.  Great team defense prevented the visiting Saints from making a field goal in the last 8 minutes.  Great ball pressure from Jack Keenan and impressive help defense from Miles Moore would lead the charge.  Max Watkinson had a team high fifteen points but none more impressive than those that came in the final seconds of regulation.  Watkinson trailed the play and watched junior Anthony Smaldore draw 2 defenders.  The point guard would find his shooter just steps inside the half court line and Watkinson would get his feet set and drain a deep 3 point shot as time expired to tie the game and force overtime! The teams went back and forth during the first 4 minute overtime but things remained unsettled and required a second overtime period.  It looked as though the game was headed for a third overtime session as St. Mary’s had 1.5 seconds left to play and had to go the length of the floor to break a fifty eight all tie.  After nearly forcing a 5 second call St. Paul’s forced St. Mary’s to heave up a half court shot that would drop as time expired.
