The Varsity basketball team traveled to McDonogh last night to take on an the host Eagles team that is expected to compete at the top of the MIAA “A” conference for a second straight year. The Crusaders trailed most of the game but used tough defense to remain within striking distance throughout the contest. St. Paul’s knocked down key three point shots down the stretch from three different players, freshman DJ Taylor-Peay, sophomore Amir Thomas, and junior Anthony Smaldore were able to hit key shots that quickly made it a one point game in crunch time. Seniors Miles Moore and Seth Higgins, who were key defensively all night, would hook up to give St. Paul’s the lead with under a minute left to play. Higgins dropped off a pass to Moore who would finish a highly contested layup in traffic. St. Paul’s would get a key stop that resulted in Moore ending up at the foul line with under ten seconds to play. The upperclassmen knocked down both foul shots to give his team a three point lead and the win!
