Basketball - Varsity vs. Severn School
MIAA Semifinals

Event Type: Regular

Date: February 21, 2019

Event Recap:

The Varsity basketball team earned the right to host a home playoff game last night in the Middleton Athletic center and they did not let that opportunity go to waste. The host Crusader’s jumped out to a 14-6 first quarter lead over the Severn School. St. Paul’s never trailed in the game but it was highly competitive contest. Severn clawed away at an eight point half time lead held by the home team to make it a four point game heading into the fourth quarter. The Crusaders would score 23 points in the frame, as senior Troy Barthelme made a huge impact on the game. The senior nailed three shots from behind the arc and went four for five from the free throw line in the deciding period to help the Crusaders pull away and earn a spot in the championship game. As usual St. Paul’s received a total team effort defensively, holding Seven under double digits in each of the first two quarters. Leo Kelly grabbed nine key defensive rebounds and Anthony Smaldore handled intense pressure the entire game and still managed to tally nine assists. Come support St. Paul’s on Sunday at 3:00 at Harford Community College, where they will take on defending tournament champions Gerstell Academy.
