Basketball - Varsity vs. Indian Creek

Event Type: Regular

Date: February 4, 2019

Event Recap:

The Crusaders’ varsity basketball team got off to a sluggish start Monday night at home against Indian Creek, scoring just 17 first half points. Lucky St. Paul’s they defended well and only trailed by one point at the half. The defense continued to be stellar as the visitors from Indian Creek would score just four points in the quarter as the home team built a nine point lead thanks to three point makes from three different players. Ziggy Reid had 13 points and a monster night on the boards with 15 rebounds. His front court mate and fellow senior Troy Barthleme would add 16 points and five rebounds as he battled through illness. The Crusaders got great defensive play from the whole team but Miles Moore and Leo Kelly would work to deny Indian Creek’s high scoring Khalil Williams the ball in a box and one scheme and hold him to just five total points. Indian Creek was lead in scoring by Khiyon Wastingon who tallied 12 points. Phil Stokes and Anthony Smaldore hit timely shots in the second half and controlled the pace of the game for the Crusaders, who would go on to win 50 to 38. The victory, combined with a loss from Gerstell, puts the Crusaders in first place in the league by a half of a game and sets up a big time match up between the two on Wednesday night at Gerstell.
