Soccer - JV
|Date:||September 4, 2019|
On a hot and humid Wednesday afternoon, the JV Soccer team opened its season with a visit up Greenspring Valley Road to take on perennial power McDonogh. The Eagles, comprised mostly of tough and rugged sophomores and juniors, were a fierce test indeed for the visiting Crusaders. Only a top effort would do. The game was a savage tilt headlined by spectacular goalkeeping on both ends (led by Aiden Gould ’23 between the pipes), and with 20 minutes left, it was still a scoreless draw. However, a rare slip by the Crusader back line resulted in a goal for the hosts, and things looked bleak – until junior Pierre Roger-Dalbert managed to loft one over the Eagle keeper to tie things with just three minutes left. The newfound momentum carried over into overtime, and the relentless SP attack finally paid off – when sophomore Grant Willie fed classmate Jonah Waxman – whose sudden-death tally set off a celebratory midfield dogpile, followed by an ice bath shower for the heroic Scot. (Move over, Braveheart.) At 1-0 in the A Conference, this year’s JV squad is off and running for a playoff berth – catch them if you can.
