On Friday night, under the lights, the St. Paul's Varsity football team traveled to the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex just outside Washington Redskin Stadium. The St. Paul's offense and defense managed to put together a "team-like" performance that gained them their first MIAA B conference win on the season. On the offensive side of the ball, Senior Quarterback Leo Kelly was 9 for 17 for 268 yards and 3 touchdowns in the air. Kelly connected on touchdown passes to Junior Alex Sulin, Senior Quizzon Tarver and Senior Gabe Green. Junior slotback Logan Santos also recorded a Crusader touchdown on the ground. Junior Kicker Damon Ramos converted 3 of 4 extra points. Senior running back Princeton Douglass had an outstanding running performance keeping the Panthers at bay. Once again the Crusaders received excellent offensive line play from Seniors Max Stukenberg, Brennan Treacy, Junior Zach Lambert, Sophomore Will McGuirk and Freshman Steven Markiewicz.
On the Defensive side of the ball, Senior Jack Parr led all tacklers with 12 solo tackles and 2 sacks. Due to some injuries, Parr was moved from his linebacker position to defensive end. Junior middle linebacker Miles Moore finished second with 6 solo tackles. Defensive backs Quizzon Tarver and Everette McDuffie both recorded 5 solo tackles. During the contest, McDuffie came up with a big interception with stalled a Panther drive. In the fourth quarter, Pallotti scored on a 1 yard run making the contest 27-26. With no hesitation, the Panthers decided to go for 2 to win the game. On the first play from scrimmage (2 Point Conversation), Pallotti scored on a jet sweep to the left but the play was called back for offensive holding. On the next play from the 13 yard line, Pallotti's quarterback threw an incomplete pass ending the threat.
After recovering the onside kick, Kelly took a knee to secure the Crusaders victory. St. Paul's will face off this Friday at home vs Archbishop Curley High School. The St. Paul's community will honor legendary head football coach Mitchell Tullai. Please come out and support the Crusaders and honor this great coach.
