
Bill Childs ’72, was honored on June 13 as “CEO of the Year” by Southern Maryland’s leading businesses and executives at the 12th annual Leading Edge Awards ceremony. This annual event showcases individuals and businesses that spur economic growth in the region, and Bill was among honorees who exemplify the qualities synonymous with business success: performance excellence, innovation and an unwavering dedication to customers and staff. He received a Certificate of Congressional Recognition, signed by Steny Hoyer, Democrat Whip, U.S. House of Representatives; a Governor's Citation signed by Governor Martin O'Malley; and a Maryland General Assembly Citation.
Bill is the President and CEO of Chaney Enterprises, which produces ready-mix concrete and mines sand and gravel. Under his leadership the company, which has more than 300 employees, has been recognized nationally for its land reclamation projects—one of which is now a golf course. Bill is a member of the St. Paul’s Board of Trustees and the Crusader Council, and has long been an enthusiastic booster of his alma mater.
