Eastern Shore Service Learning Trip
REGISTRATION NOW OPEN
Application
Working near Georgetown, DE and living just outside of beautiful Rehoboth Beach, the Eastern Shore Trip gives students the opportunity to serve a diversity of needs at a location close to home. Students choose which of four different groups they would like to work with throughout the week. Options include:
The Way Home – Partnered with St. Paul’s for over a decade, The Way Home is a ministry that helps ex-inmates transition back into society. Activities include painting, cleaning, organizing, yard work, and debris removal.
Habitat for Humanity – a national non-profit that builds and repairs homes. Activities include painting, landscaping, building, demolition, and cleanup. A solid choice for those wanting a week filled with meaningful, physically demanding work.
Boys and Girls Club – an organization that runs a weekly camp for elementary through middle school aged children. Activities include being an assistant counselor, helping with children’s games, activities, and crafts. Great for students interested in working with younger kids.
Cape Henlopen State Park – a Delaware State Park north of Rehoboth Beach. Work on trail maintenance, park clean-up, beach clean-up, and landscaping. Also, work in and tour Fort Miles, a WWII coastal fortification.
In addition to serving, students will learn about the environmental and cultural impact of the poultry industry, the modern day incarceration system, and the fragile ecology of the Chesapeake Bay. On this trip there’s tons of fun to be had at the work site, in the kitchen (we cook most of our meals together), and on the boardwalk! A staple of the Service Learning program, the Eastern Shore Trip 2013 promises to be an incredible experience!
