  • International Women's Day
    Thursday, March 9
In celebration of International Women's Day and the spirit of this year's theme "Be Bold for Change," SPSG will welcome alumna Courtney Williamson '05 to campus on March 9. After pursuing a Ph.D from Carnegie Mellon, Courtney merged personal experience and entrepreneurial spirit to develop the Calibrace, a back brace for Parkinson's patients, and launched her company, Abili-Life. She has been bold and courageous in her efforts to make a difference for the millions suffering from the disease, and thus, she is a wonderful fit for the day's celebration. Courtney will speak to the full student body during Prayers and will meet with small groups of Middle and Upper School students throughout the morning.

  • Solar Panel Update
Panels are in and inspections are complete! The last step before we "flip the switch" on April 19 and go live is for BGE to come swap the utility meter. Hopefully, that will happen in the next few weeks, and in the meantime, we'll continue to appreciate the warmer temperatures and hope for lots of sunshine to generate power this spring!

  • Literary Week at SPSG
    Monday, April 3-Friday, April 7
This year, the Mary Ellen Thomsen Writer-in-Residence is Jack Gantos. Mr. Gantos has written books for readers of all ages, from picture books and middle-grade fiction to novels for young adults and adults.
    • Some of his works include Hole in My Life, a memoir that won the Michael L. Printz and Robert F. Sibert honors; Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key, a National Book-Award Finalist; Joey Pigza Loses Control, a Newbery Honor book; and Dead End in Norvelt, the 2012 Newbery Award Winner, and the Scott O'Dell Award Winner for Best Historic Fiction.
    • The SPSG Crane Library has many of Mr. Gantos books; please encourage your daughters to read one of his books.
    • Thanks to the generous endowment started by SPSG's third Headmistress, Mary Ellen Thomsen, Mr. Gantos will visit during Literary Week. He will meet with English classes. On Tuesday, April 4 he will speak at a Middle School Assembly.
    • Join us Tuesday, April 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the Performance Gym to hear him speak (registration coming soon!)
    • On Wednesday, April 5, Mr. Gantos will serve as a guest judge during our annual Poetry Recitation Contest.
