At St. Paul’s, all the arts – drama, dance, music, and visual arts – have pride of place. Self-expression, drawing, sculpture, dancing, acting…our strong visual and performing arts program offers those with a creative bent a chance to explore, push limits, and rejoice in the outcome. The arts are a part of the academic curriculum at St. Paul’s.
The arts faculty comes from a variety of professional and educational backgrounds. All share their passion and expertise with their students.
“As a teacher, you have to utilize your students’ energy,” says one. “They can’t give you what’s inside them unless you bring it out.”
At St. Paul’s, the high levels of energy, enthusiasm, and commitment devoted to course work extend naturally to extracurricular activities. Interested in and good at many things, our students use their time out of class to do more of what they do best and love most. It is not at all unusual to see a student perform in a drama production one season and play a varsity sport in the next.

“At many other schools, children are scheduled to perform two to three times a year, so most of the class time is spent preparing for those performances. At St. Paul’s, our classroom time is devoted to learning.”
—Robbin Schaffer, Lower School music teacher
