Welcome

Welcome to St. Paul’s. This website allows you to explore our School and learn about our community. I hope you find it informative and helpful. Nevertheless, like any school, we have many dimensions you discover only through affiliation and experience. Let me share four of those dimensions that are essential to understanding what St. Paul’s stands for and strives to achieve.

First, we are a community that prizes virtue and values. Our Episcopalian affiliation provides a standard for our actions as a community. We welcome families of all faiths and beliefs, with a shared understanding that the best education begins with the cultivation of virtuous conduct and concern for others.

Second, we know that young people grow best – both intellectually and socially- when taught by teachers who are as dedicated to knowing their students as they are to knowing their subject matter. We have a superb faculty fully engaged in the lives of their students and devoted to providing each student opportunities to excel in all areas of school life.

Third, we provide a highly challenging academic program for our students. We do not simply want our students to perform well on tests; we want them to learn-truly how to think and to master the world of ideas. The process begins in the Lower School, continues through the Middle School, and culminates with a rigorous Upper School curriculum, now incorporating the International Baccalaureate program. We believe, and many colleges concur, that the International Baccalaureate is the most intellectually challenging curriculum in secondary education today.

Finally, a St. Paul’s education includes exploring artistic and physical capabilities. In these areas, our students work under instructors, directors, and coaches (often their classroom teachers), who are as passionate and informed about these endeavors as they are about their academic field. Providing such opportunities for all students guarantees a rich experience for them and generates great school spirit and energy.

I invite you to continue your exploration of St. Paul’s School beyond what is found on our website. It would be our pleasure to welcome you to Brooklandwood, just outside the Baltimore Beltway, where you can learn firsthand more of the many wonderful dimensions of St. Paul’s.
